TIPS FOR CARPET SELECTION

Whether you are looking for commercial or residential carpet, we have something for you here at DHI.

Thanks for visiting our blog from designer home interiors! This being the first entry, I thought I’d start with some carpet selection tips. Of course you are going to try and get the best price for your dollar, but what else should you look for?

Carpet Fibers

First, you want a carpet that will cater to your needs for that room. If you want carpet in a high traffic area, you need something that is durable, and can handle a lot of excitement.

Nylon, or Olefin are some very durable fibers. Olefin is extremely durable, but it’s like a manufactured plastic thread. Be careful when dragging heavy things across olefin, you could melt the fibers and damage your carpet.

Nylon is also durable, but more user friendly. If you love the shaggy carpets, a nylon will have more rebound if you have a longer pile than if you were to go with a polyester. These durable fibers can be more expensive than polyester too, but if you want to have a carpet that lasts a long time, the cost will be low compared to how long it will look good. If you wanted a more soft and comfortable feel Nylon can only give you this after being treated with several chemicals, making it more expensive.

Polyester is a common quality carpet material too, it is generally more soft, but will wear out a little quicker; which isn’t too bad if you like to change up your style often. A polyester carpet would be an easy choice for a soft and affordable good quality carpet. Wool carpet is another option.
